Purpose The purpose of this position is to provide general legal advisory services on statutes, regulations, case law; commercial and litigation services to all key stake holder (i.e. Companies in the Group) and liaise with external law firms on outsourced complex litigation and debt recovery matters  
Responsibilities
  • To receive instructions from all Companies in relation to Litigation, Commercial Banking and Finance, Industrial Relations and any other related legal issues including any risk matters that impact the Group.
  • Gather research and analyze data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles and codes, and provide professional written and oral legal advice to Company managers and officers in relation to legal and legal-policy issues.
  • Sight and vet all incoming correspondence relating to Human Resources matters and respond on behalf of the Group by correspondences and documents relating to administrative or civil action.
  • Represent the Group at meetings with public and private sector organizations.
  • Appear for Group in administrative tribunals, arbitration tribunals, court hearings and dispute settlements.
  • Make decisions regarding the release of documents by the Group.
  • Draft legal instruments on behalf of the Group (including proposals for changes to if any, in administrative, commercial and litigation matters.).
  • Provide Continuing Legal Education training on legal issues to the sub-ordinates.
  • Assist with the direction and co-ordination of legal work in the Legal Services Division.
  • Promote workplace safety, equality of employment opportunity and participative management practices in the workplace.
  • Track all recoveries made from enforcement proceedings on behalf of the company i.e. vacant possession sales, garnishees etc.

  • To track solicitors’ legal costs on matters briefed out on recommendation and report on status.

Key Result Areas (KRAs)    

Financial:

  • Keeping solicitors’ legal costs within set budget by year end.
  • Ensuring recoveries by way of vacant possession sales; enforcements reach set target by year end (Revenue growth)  

Process:

Submitting matter reports to on all open matters to SBU monthly.    

 

Customer:

Prompt reporting to achieve a good customer satisfaction rating by year end.  

People:

Providing CLEs and attending ten (10) training days by the year end.

Bachelor of Laws 
  • Banking and Finance Law Drafting Legal Documents
  • Civil Litigation – procedures and remedies
  • Commercial and Contract Law
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Criminal Litigation procedures and remedies
  • Knowledge and experience in Banking, Asset Management, debt recovery and credit analysis
  • Legal Risk management
